The real "formula" to being a Creative Genius
And yes, you are a creative genius. You just don't know it yet.
Have you noticed that 90% of the ads for courses you’re getting go along the lines of:
“I figured it out. I cracked the code. I know the secret so now I will tell you what only I know so you can follow the same formula and hope it works for you, too.”
And sometimes it works. But the problem is — times are changing. The formula to success is not so much a formula any more. Why?
Because we’re finally realizing that we’re not all the same. And actually what that person did who is selling their success is just formatting their own unique thing that worked after probably trying many other people’s strategy. Someone cracked the code on pleasing the algorithm and is ready to claim that if you do the exact same thing, it will work for you. But if that’s the road to success… Shouldn’t everyone be successful? If it’s such a “formula,” why does copying Janet feels so sh*tty and not actually work?
We’re in a new paradigm. You’re beginning to feel like maybe following the same repackaged advice isn’t hitting right because it doesn’t leave room for you figuring out YOUR success story.
Our entire relationship to creativity is changing because we can’t go another day trying to contort our art and creations into the past formula. The greatest success stories are the ones where they say “I just relentlessly followed my gut and did what I wanted to do.” That’s an authentic story. Taylor Swift isn’t the success she is because she followed the formula laid out by David Bowie. She said “wow, David Bowie does his own thing and that’s what’s so magnetic. Let me go find my own thing.” (fictional example but it lands).
Self-discovery is the flavor of our generation because we’re finally getting it: Trying to be like everybody else was a lie sold to keep us unoriginal, frustrated, burnt out, and literally on a never ending hamster wheel. The enlightened artist is one who shuts out the noise and focuses on what God is saying through his own channel. The reason iPhones fill every house in your neighborhood is because a man was crazy enough to do things according to his vision.
My friend shared a Pinterest photo with me that said “Creatives are the new athletes.” An athletes greatest competition is the voice in their head. The Resistance surfacing at the 100th minute on the soccer field. It’s playing for years and years with no pay off and only the joy of the craft. The process. The flow state that kicks in after overcoming an obstacle.
Creatives are the future because they innately know who the real coach is. They know who has the answer and who’s going to bring home the medal. It’s you. It’s the essence of who you are. It’s your quirky shyness and your bold delivery and your strange affinity for purple hats.
Every outward journey ultimately leads you home — inward.
I started writing this piece because I was doing something that I know gets my creative juices flowing. I know it works for me because I’m familiar with my energy, my thoughts, my habits, and my unique Design. I’ve learned that I get inspiration by stimulating my Crown chakra aka by changing my environment, watching a video on a topic I like, or going for a walk.
I’ve removed the idea that I should only come up with my next best piece by sitting in silence and hoping it magically drops in… I know what works for me. And I also am willing to be that you can tell this essay was written from my heart and soul. That’s the proof. I’m magnetic and in flow when I align my actions with my energy and my unique blue print.
I think I am onto something here because I’ve been deeply fulfilled by incorporating Human Design (a personality typing system with inherent spiritual properties) into my work and life. I started incorporating it years ago when a coach (s/o Jenni!) asked me what my energy type is so she could more effectively provide guidance. It’s completely changed the way I perceive problems, resistance, obstacles, and my own success story.
It starts within me. It’s a journey of discovering how much I can be MYSELF and use my quirks and my weird habits to create the life I want. And it’s working because I feel good. And as Ali Abdaal says,
“Success doesn’t lead to feeling good, feeling good leads to success.”
Become relentless in your search of true Self. Be relentless in your commitment to doing things your way. Be relentless in believing that you have it what it takes.
Your success story is written by you and the only co-author is the Universal energy that helped make you who you are. It’s always been you.
If this speaks to you, let me know. I am creating a very unique program that is intended to help you uncover what makes you YOU and how to leverage that in your creative process. Something that changes the entire way we approach the creative and entrepreneurial process. Human Design meets Creative Genius energy.
Thanks for being here. Sending you love and ~flow~
