There is an idea put forth in Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist which states that if you go on ignoring the omens sent to you by the Universe, they will stop coming.
This is not meant to scare you — it is meant to remind you of a very simple truth that holds water whether it be in relationships or in the Universe itself. Relationships require communication. A two-way street of messages sent — verbal, non-verbal, energetic, written, symbolic, and beyond. These messages tell us where we are, they help us know how our partner is feeling, and they orient us in the world.
Language and symbols are how the vast majority of humans interact with the world.
And then, there are omens. Omens are the language of the Universe, as The Alchemist confirms and illustrates in its soul-inspiring story of a young man who goes on an adventure to pursue his Personal Legend. Today we call these signs or synchronicities. Magical moments! The unseen. Omens are the way that the unseen power of the Universe communicates with you.
But here’s the thing — like in any healthy relationship, the longer you go on without acknowledging what the other is telling you, the quicker the relationship thins out.
If you want to have a relationship with the Universe, that is, the grand power that is conspiring in YOUR favor, you have to talk to it. You have to listen. You have to say “Hello, what do you have for me today?”
In The Alchemist, there are people who give up on their Personal Legend. They fall prey to their self-doubt and obstacles, and eventually, they put aside their dream for the more comfortable predetermined path. Down that road, the omens stop coming.
But here’s my interpretation — the Universe is always communicating, but if we are never looking or listening, we won’t see it. It is that simple.
How can you keep the omens coming?
There is but one small requirement to open up this channel and allow the frequency to be picked up. You must go on your path. Your path. Not the beaten trail… but your divine way home.
Let me tell you why this is. In nature, the trees grow and the flowers bloom without thinking too much about it. Bears hibernate and they catch salmon based on instinct. Nature has laws simply by virtue of existing as it is. And guess what? Man and nature are not separate. Man just has this tricky little thing called ego and an advanced consciousness yielding a double-edged sword.
You are nature. You are capable of flow and growth by virtue of existing. Your success is inevitable by way of Universal law. (We’ll redefine success another time.)
The natural world is tuned into omens as well, but they don’t call them that. Trees are listening to the air and flowers are in communication with the bees. They all know what to do.
Omens present themselves when you are in your own nature. When you are your true, essential self. This is because when you act in accordance with nature, the Universe recognizes this language. You’ve changed your frequency and the surrounding world begins to resonate.
And with a swift and unrelenting motion, you become at one with all. You are not apart but a part of.
What does your path have to do with this? The ego mind wants to follow what is safe and known. It wants security and stability (and let me inject that these are not inherently bad!) but the soul understands that these are achieved internally and not externally. Therefore…
When you forge your own path, you allow your internal GPS to lead the way. A GPS that is in sync with the Universe because it is the Universe. Vibration recognizes vibration. The path carved out by the soul is inherently in touch with nature and thus it communicates with all things around it. Why? It is no longer operating in a silo as the ego perceives itself to be.
You see? Soul = in sync.
Ego = separation.
If you are separate, why would a bluebird visiting your porch have anything to do with you? Why would a blade of grass have any significance to you? If you are separate, why would it matter if your favorite author has the same birthday as you?
When we are separate we do not see ourselves in others, in “other” things.
Omens become visible and audible and sensible when you are tuned into the frequency of your nature. The soul knows where to go, the mind simply needs to trust.
This realization will ignite a new color palette that has laid dormant. Suddenly pursuing your own path isn’t just a matter of honoring your talents and your gifts, it is a matter of profound spiritual importance.
It is the advancement of your consciousness into a consciousness that embodies Oneness.
So yes — OMENS are the language of the Universe because when we forge our own path we do so in accordance with our nature and our nature is nature itself in the same way that a wave is an extension of the ocean.
Are you ready to listen? Are you ready to see? Are you ready to feel?
You are not alone on this path. You are not separate from this world.
It’s time for you to fire up the forge and wield your sacred weapon. The mind-body-soul complex that is ready for more, that is ready to expand, and is ready to go beyond the known.
Get out of your mind and into your heart. Listen to the omens. Ask for more. Be ready to receive.
This is what waits for you on your forged path.
